Lisa Tinney holds a B. Mus. from U. of A. and an M.A. from University of Victoria in Classical Voice and History, with her thesis and lecture recital exploring the influence of Spanish folk music on the Classical repertoire. Her areas of specialization are Spanish Art song, lieder, 20th Century, and Baroque repertoire.
Lisa has performed as a soloist in the Victoria area for the past 30 years. She enjoys ensemble performance, and has sung in operetta, dinner theatre, and musical theatre reviews. She is a founding member of Melissima, an a capella women’s trio performing music from madrigals to musical theatre, and is a long-standing member of the Norton Singers at Butchart Gardens.
A member of the local chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), Lisa has been teaching voice in the Victoria area for over thirty years, focusing on healthy vocal technique across musical styles.
Recent performances include a Schubertiade with her colleague Kathryn LeGros with Resonance, and as a member of the chamber chorus in Vancouver Island Performers Guild’s recent performance of Handel’s Messiah. Lisa also toured Western Canada for several years as a backup singer with the Roy Orbison tribute band, The Lonely.
