Billy Bang is one of the greatest violinists in the history of jazz. Over the past 30 years his hard-edged tone, soulful sense of swing, and evocatively expressive style have been heard with a wide range of artists including the blistering funkster Bootsy Collins, harmolodic groovemeister Ronald Shannon Jackson, and the intergalatic Sun Ra. Billy has more tan 15 recordings under his own leadership, nearly a dozen more in collaborative efforts, and five more with the String Trio of New York ( which he co-founded in 1977 with guitarist James Emery and bassist John Lindberg). His award-winning Justin Time recording Vietnam: The Aftermath. with its drama, lyricism, and considerable rhythmic sense, is a tour de force. Besides leading his stellar quartet featuring Andrew Bemkey piano, Todd Nicholson bass, Newman Taylor Baker drums, Bang currently works with the FAB Trio (Barry Altschul, Joe Fonda).
