Victoria's 1st Ska Festival took place as a result of a bunch of good things all coming together (Victoria's ska/punk heroes Pressure Cooker doing a reunion concert and the inspiration of the late Matthew Bishop (original DJ of CFUV 101.9FM's Skankster's Paradise) to put together a larger version of his Skankster's Paradise) Victoria's Annual Ska Festival has grown into a world-wide event that brings bands and fans from all around the world.Bands on this Grand Finale Concert go perfectly with the festival's theme of reunion and unity. Also, the majority of bands on the show have recently re-united or are reuniting for this special show.
THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES were a ska institution throughout North America before they broke up. We are extremely happy to have them come and play at our festival for our big 10-year B-Day! Notably this will be an exclusive Canadian date for Mighty Mighty Bosstones and it's the first time that they would have played on Canadian soil for over 10 years!
VOODOO GLOW SKULLS have repeatedly labeled their unique fusion of punk, metal, ska and Latino swing as “California street music.” That fits in just fine with this amazing line-up for the Grand Finale Concert. The band is very excited to FINALLY;) come to Victoria's Annual Ska Festival.
ONE DROP were a reggae/punk/ska institution in Victoria before they broke up in the winter of 2008. Who could forget countless shows at UVIC on Wednesday nights or the smaller intimate shows at their jam shack that became one of the pillars of the ska community for bands and fans alike. Thanks for the great Ska Fest after parties too! Today, many of the members have formed their own ska, reggae or punk bands in Victoria and around the Lower Mainland area. Some of its members continue to assist the Victoria BC Ska Society with the festival and its year-round presentations.THE
HOOCHY GIRLS How can we forget them singing "Killing Animals" at the Anti-War in Iraq Rally at the Legislature? The Hoochy Girls were a huge part of Victoria's ska community and we're happy to have the still young Hoochy Girls come and do a reunion show for us!
