Neil Young is a flatpicker and a master of pendulum style strumming. He uses a variety of easy to understand syncopations to keep his rhythm accompaniment effective. His chord voicings are easy to achieve but reflect his study of the guitar neck to get just the right sound. He embellishes with hammer ons and pull offs frequently and commonly uses drop D or double dropped D tuning to get open, lush sounds. Studying his acoustic music will provide new ideas and skills to any guitarist, at any level.
This workshop will explore all of these playing techniques while examining some of your favourite Neil Young songs:
Harvest Moon
Don’t Let It Bring You Down
The Old Laughing Lady
Sugar Mountain
Heart of Gold and more
Who is it for?
