Lindy Mechefske is one of the most recognized names in food writing in Canada with a large media following, both in traditional media and social media. “I would have to say the greatest influence on my life was my paternal grandfather, Harry Sutcliffe, who lived in Yorkshire, England,” she says. “I don't think I would have the love affair with food that I do if it had not been for him. He put such care into food — it was how he expressed love”. Lindy is a two-time Gold Medal Winner in the Taste Canada Awards for Out of Old Ontario Kitchens, and Sir John’s Table, and the author of A Taste of Wintergreen. She is the food columnist for the Kingston Whig-Standard and her work has appeared in various anthologies, literary journals and magazines including The New Quarterly, the Ottawa Citizen, Grapevine Magazine, and Kingston Life.
Her latest book is Ontario Picnics: A Century of Dining Outdoors, a charming retrospective and visual feast that looks back at over a century of photographs and other treasures all celebrating Ontario picnics.
