Choreography: Taane Mete, Taiaroa Royal & Malia Johnston
Mana Wahine [Powerful Women] is an all-female work that explores the strength, spirit, and beauty of women. Inspired by the true story of a young Māori heroine and informed by stories from the dancers’ families, Mana Wahine incorporates bold projections, chant, original music, Māori costumes, cultural traditions and history, creating a contemporary work that celebrates female endurance and strength.
“…a rich fusion of choreography, music, tikanga Māori and performance practices, AV, lighting and performance design…enriched and enlivened by the dancing of five powerhouse performers.” THEATREVIEW, NEW ZEALAND
