HEJIRA - With an array of eclectic original songs featuring richly layered and intricate arrangements, Hejira's self-titled debut is sonically rich, supported by well-crafted melodies and arrangements. The CD combines dissonant moments driven by angular guitars with more spacious and atmospheric songs. HINTERLAND has been carving its own niche in the musical landscape with ambient drones giving way to cascading walls of star-gazing guitar rock, all topped with heavenly vocals. Hinterland’s atmospheric sound is based in rock ’n’ roll, but the quintet’s shimmering sound is made unique by the inclusion of a few decidedly non-standard elements including flute, oboe and baritone guitar. The band will be playing new songs from their much-anticipated upcoming 2nd album, due in early 2006. http://www.hinterland.bc.ca

PORTICO delivers great female vocals, tight, angular indie rock songs and a big sound from past and present members of Pluteous and Trains Across The Sea. Their musical touchstones include Blonde Redhead, Tortoise and Slint. http://www.porticonation.com
