One of the most celebrated players on the Dutch improv scene, saxophonist Ab Baars is internationally acclaimed for both his solo and ensemble music. A member of the famed ICP Orchestra, Baars is cofounder with violist Ig Henneman of Holland’s Wig Foundation, which supports the creation of composed and improvised music. Although she writes for orchestra, film, and theatre, and is a gifted improviser, Henneman mainly focuses on the Henneman String Quartet, Duo Baars-Henneman, and the Queen Mab Trio. Henneman and Baars will also perform in their well-seasoned reeds/viola duo format — music reflective of their recent disc Stof (Wig). Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love are members of some of the most important groups working today — the Thing with Mats Gustafsson, Atomic, and Ken Vandermark’s School Days.
