This husband and wife team could be one of the greatest piano/violin pairings ever. Swiss-born composer/improviser Sylvie Courvoisier is one of the most imaginative pianists in new music. A frequent collaborator with Mark Feldman, Ikue Mori, and Fred Frith, she is a member of Mephista and the leader of her own quintet and the trio Abaton. The music on her new solo CD, Signs and Epigrams (Tzadik), is aesthetically beautiful, moody, and mysterious. A highly sought after violinist on the New York downtown scene, Mark Feldman is one of the world’s most versatile and accomplished virtuosos. He is adept at jazz, classical music, free improvisation, and country music and has worked with everyone from the WDR Radio Symphony of Köln to Willie Nelson to Dave Douglas. Feldman most often performs with John Zorn’s Masada String Trio and his Bar Kokhba Septet, John Abercrombie’s quartet, his own ensembles, and in duo with Courvoisier. The couple has recently released Malphas: Book of Angels Vol.3 (Tzadik), an exciting and breathtaking program of 11 John Zorn compositions filled with creativity, lyricism, and intense energy. This is chamber music for the twenty-first century!
