Altered Laws

Vancouver’s Altered Laws creates distinctly individual music that combines Latin, pop, Brazilian, mainstream, and avant-garde jazz, sometimes subtly and sometimes with intense forward-drive. The compositions (originals by pianist Miles Black and saxophonist/flutist Tom Keenlyside) are all melodic, but this melody can be hypnotic, light-hearted, surreal, and eager. In addition to the brilliant contributions of Black and Keenlyside, the group features the gifted drummer Bernie Arai and the marvellous bassist Miles Foxx Hill. Their new CD Metaphora received a Juno nomination this year.
