Formed in Edmonton in 1963, Willie And The Walkers were known for their visual stage presence which focused on their two identical guitars. As their popularity grew in the Prairies they were able to do opening slots for the likes of Paul Revere & The Raiders, Cream, and The Guess Who. In 1967 they were signed to Capitol Records and released several singles recorded by Buddy Holly producer Norm Petty. The most successful of these was “(Alone) In My Room” which reached number one nationally across Canada in January 1968. Without successive chart action, the band called it quits by the early ’70’s and Willie MacCalder went on to join the Powder Blues Band. In 1988 the original members reunited for the first annual Edmonton Rock And Roll Reunion where the response was so encouraging the band decided to reform. However, several member changes occurred as with Nick Petruk replacing Hardie on drums, Francis replacing MacCalder, and Smarton was added on keyboards. They toured again in the ’90’s as The Walkers; Willie MacCalder passed away April 23, 2023. with notes from Elle Wilson, Norm Bright. Credit Canpopencyclopedia*
