Leonard was born and raised in Victoria and attended local schools until mid grade 12 when he was invited to University of Washington in Seattle to join a prestigious music program.
When he returned, he finished grade 12, was married in 1969 to Shelley and taught music on a Letter of Permission while completing his Bachelor of Education and Masters Degree at night school and summer school at UVic during which time his two daughters were born, Bridget 1975 and Sarah 1979.
He eventually went into school administration and was seconded to the Ministry of Education but his first love was always teaching music. His hundreds of students mourn his passing. Many recently reunited with him for the Mt. Doug Alumni celebrations with a massed bands concert. The Michaux family is a musical "legend" in Victoria with his late father Emile a wonderful band master and brass teacher to many of Leonard's music students.
His golf partners at Uplands will be sad to lose his company but they may be a few Toonies to the good.
He will be missed at Shawnigan Lake where he captained the boat and encouraged first time skiers, grilled endless hamburgers and forever tried to perfect the "Len Dive".
He will be mourned by his wife Shelley, daughters Bridget (Brent) and Sarah (David) and four grandchildren Ava, William, Parker and Grayson.
He also leaves his older brother Robert(Julie) and nephews David and Peter and families.
