Born in London and raised in Nigeria, Ola Onabule is a so called “soul funkateer” who has emerged as one of Britain’s finest singers over the last decade. With a four-octave vocal range and a life-long interest in funk, soul, and jazz, Onabule first got noticed in 1994 when he brought out a self-produced CD. Several more recordings followed including his latest album, 2007’s The Devoured Man and his soon to be released Seven Shades Darker. This talented songwriter and incendiary performer did gigs with legendary artists such as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Dianne Reeves, and Al Jarreau. With his honeyed voice and commanding stage presence, Onabule has an authenticity that evokes the glory days of Marvin Gaye and James Brown. Although too little known on this side of the Atlantic – expect that to change soon! – Onabule and his intoxicatingly husky and supple voice look destined to become the “Next Big Thing” in the world of soul music.
One of the best-kept secrets in the British music world.” – Passion Mag
