Not afraid to stretch musical boundaries, delve into other genres, and experiment with style, Louder than Love’s compositional prowess and killer musicianship puts them on rock’s cutting edge.
Based out of Vancouver, the band was created by lead-singer and song-writer Paul Lambert —a rock-guitarist, gone jazz-guitarist, gone haywire. Music has taken him from his Vancouver bedroom, to Montreal to study music, to NYC where he played with numerous bands. A visit from his childhood friend Dan Okano, while in Montreal, planted the seed for Louder than Love and Paul started writing material for what would be the band’s debut album. Paul jokes, "Writing songs is like having a child. You give birth to an idea, watch it grow; start dressing and feeding it. Then, at some point, it starts talking back and giving you attitude. So you see it through those hard times, and then send it out into the world where it either takes on a life of its own or becomes a loser and is forgotten by society.”
In this case, sending the songs out in the world meant returning home and having some wild jam sessions with old friends. Luckily, those friends, Ras Contractor, Tyler Thompson, and Paul’s brother, Tony Lambert, didn’t think the songs were losers at all. They knew they were all onto something amazing and the final line-up for Louder than Love was solidified.
The band’s debut album, Dark Days, recorded this year at The Warehouse Studios, is filled with modern hooks and layered riffs, putting a unique twist on the band’s progressive rock roots. Influenced by the epic song-writing of bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, it incorporates a panoramic experience into each of the songs without ever sacrificing meaning and melody. The result is a wholly fresh, intricate album that will excite you musically and have you singing along.
