New Brunswick’s Matt Andersen has a larger than life showmanship that has been earning him a fervent and steadfast audience wherever he graces the stage. Matt's sprawling blues, roots and rock musical hybrid with his soulful voice and astonishing guitar-playing has sparked a phenomenal buzz across Canada!
In 2010 Matt won the 26th edition of the 2010 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in the birthplace of Rock N' Roll and home of the blues, Memphis, Tennessee. Matt is the first Canadian ever to win the IBC in its 26 years of inception. Blues musicians from all over the world including 39 states, 12 countries and five continents competed in venues on the world-famous Beale Street. As the big winner, Matt opened the door to the U.S. market and the larger world stage!
Matt was nominated for four East Coast music Awards in 2011 (winning in the category of Blues Recording Of The Year and Male Solo Recording Of The Year) as well as winning in two categories at the 14th Maple Blues Awards (Entertainer Of The Year and Acoustic Act Of The Year). In September of this year Matt will be touring to support his just released studio album Coal Mining Blues which was produced by well known Canadian bluesman, Colin Linden. Coal Mining Blues was recorded at Levon Helm’s studio in NY state with guest performances by Garth Hudson (Garth and Levon were members of the Canadian – American rock group The Band). Matt Andersen is a very real, rare, raw talent and career artist – vital to our musical landscape.
