At 88 years old, pianist Dave Brubeck is a living legend. For over 60 years, this jazz giant has thrilled legions of devoted fans while improvising in unique rhythms and time signatures. A prolific writer, forever associated with his hit record of alto saxophonist and past quartet member Paul Desmond’s composition, Take Five, Dave himself has written tunes like Blue Rondo à la Turk and In Your Own Sweet Way that have become jazz classics.
Over a distinguished career, Brubeck has received many honours including a Grammy Lifetime
Achievement Award in 1996 and a Jazz Master’s Award presented to him in 1999 by the National Endowment for the Arts. The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s last appearance in Victoria was at JazzFest International ’02. The concert was a sell-out and Mr. Brubeck returns to Victoria for JazzFest ’08 with Bobby Militello alto saxophone/flute, Michael Moore bass and Randy Jones drums.
