Born of a Nigerian father and a German mother, Ndidi Onukwulu is unquestionably the hottest young blues singer in Canada. Growing up in the small northern towns of BC, Onukwulu focused on the African rhythms of her father’s heritage as well as the classic blues of Big Mama Thornton and John Lee Hooker. At the same time, this budding artist was developing into one hell of a songwriter. Her debut CD, No, I Never (Jericho Beach Music), had a political edge and a deep well of emotion that recalls Nina Simone or Billie Holiday. From stark folk sounds to electrified slide-guitar grooves, Onukwulu combines grace and power to stunning effect.
