Formed in Vancouver in late 2001, The Rumours began when vocalist/pianist Lou Rumour and guitarist Just Janelle met bassist Melissa Starr through Lous tattoo artist, and began jamming to escape the tedious perils of retail clothing sales and minimum wage. However, since playing their first show to a packed house back in March 2002, things did anything but slow down, and by the end of their first year together, the band had already acquired quite an impressive list of high profile shows with acts including The D4, Taking Back Sunday, The Donnas, Swollen Members and The Tea Party, among others.
With a span of influences that breach from 60s era doo wop to musicals to hair metal and hard rock, The Rumours blend of intense and powerful vocals, spiraling guitars and melodic, pounding rhythms have earned them press and praise from fans and industry alike. And with the addition of sublimely talented drummer Steve Senyk earlier this year, the line up is complete and sounding better than ever.
As recipients of the Future Shop/Universal Future Stars grant for best unsigned band at Canadian Music Week in Toronto last February, the band entered the studio in early October, and have just finished the recording of their first full length album, The Mighty Can Fall, planning to hit the road in late January in support of its release on Switchblade Records/Universal in February 2004. Keep an eye out for the release of the debut video Pretty in early January!
