Kathy Guthrie

Kathy Guthrie's artworks emerge from processes of exploration and experimentation, taking the form of two-dimensional works on paper, mylar, and board, as well as installation work that incorporates photo transfer, objects, and lettering. Educated in graphic design and calligraphy, Kathy began her career as a lettering artist, and her work has since evolved to encompass a mixed media approach that includes collage, watercolour and acrylic painting techniques. Her sensitivity to textures and surfaces is evident in her work's thin layers of soft paint application and washes of colour over arrangements of handmade papers, letters, and personal items, creating misty images that suggest the language of emotions and ambiguity of memory.
