Dan Politano’s sophomore CD, Staring With My Eyes Closed has what you would call, real firepower. Not only was the recording done at Mushroom Studios, literally the launching pad for many meteoric rides to fame, but it pairs the young Victoria based singer/songwriter with Juno Award winner, John Webster. Riding shotgun, are a trio of veteran musicians brought in to add even more sonic fireworks to the mix.
“It was great having his experience in the room” explains Dan, beaming about producer John Webster. A one time in-demand session player on keyboards, and a Juno Award winner, John’s name can be found on legendary recordings by Aerosmith, The Cult and other rock superstars. John, now an in-demand producer, has his name associated with successful recordings by Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell, Bif Naked and now, Dan Politano.
Literally playing all the instruments and self-producing his debut, Back Where I Started, Dan was not only relieved to have John Webster’s experience to call on this time around, but the producer brought along a trio of top notch veteran players: Randall Stoll, (Tom Cochrane, kd Lang); Tony Marriot (Jeff Buckley) and Lanny Hussey (Ginger, Winston) all adding their professional touch. “Yeah, you could say it was a little intimidating walking in the room with all these experienced names” says Dan, “but these guys were great, it didn’t take long before the nerves were gone and all that was left in the studio was an awesome energy.”
With four new, rock powered tracks ready to crack mainstream radio, Dan is more than eager to continue building where his debut left off. 43 college radio stations in Canada alone enthusiastically supported Back Where I Started. Internet radio outlets became fans and countries as far away as Australia, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, and the US found Dan’s music irresistible.
A pleasant bonus on the new CD is a lush, dreamy remake of Dan’s lament for a distant girlfriend, a song titled New Zealand that comes complete with a symphony-like sound-scape created on keyboard by producer John Webster. Dan, as he does throughout, sings in his now familiar powerful, soulful rasp, reminiscent of a youthful Bryan Adams.
Staring With My Eyes Closed will be the inaugural release on Dan’s own label, Solo Records.
