Misha Mengelberg/Joe Williamson/Dylan Van Der Schyff
Misha Mengelberg/Joe Williamson/Dylan van der Schyff
Intensely creative pianist Misha Mengelberg is a seminal figure in improvised music. The recent documentary “AFIJN” provides clear insight into Misha’s original way of thinking and working. Jazz Weekly writes that “if anyone could be characterized as the Thelonious Monk of Europe it would be Misha Mengelberg…he’s the theoretician behind the creative musical irony which underlies much of what we know as post modern Dutch—and by extension—European jazz.” Former Vancouverite Joe Williamson on bass, combining low-register solidity with an improviser’s sense of adventure, joins Misha in this rare trio performance. On drums, Vancouver’s Dylan van der Schyff is one of Canada’s leading percussionists. His skilled and imaginative use of dynamics, colour, and texture, not to mention his adept inside/outside capabilities, set him apart.
