Hong Kong-born and raised Sam Kaiser started making music in his teens. “I wrote my first tune, Old Stars, when I was about 16, and since then, I’ve been trying, failing, learning, and slowly getting better at making music,” he explains on his website. It really started off as a hobby, but it’s become a lot more than that for me.
"It would be simple enough to call Sam’s music ‘Folk,’ and it is. Sam Kaiser’s sound comes from somewhere deeper in the history of the genre. His lo-fi acoustic recording, deceptively simple lyrics and singsong melodies bring to mind the pioneers of Folk like Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger. It is folk music in the very literal sense. It is human music."

Having moved to Kingston for school, Sam has found a musical home in the city, and regularly plays live at venues like Musiikki Café. “I released an EP, Different Fires, during my first year of university, and then an album, Harper’s Sorrow, in the summer after second year, with a few singles interspersed between.” In the summer of 2021, Sam released the touching single, Fallen Over Giants, the video for which you can find below.
