Some bands form in studios. Sons of Rick formed because someone needed live music for a backyard birthday party, and Nathan Graham knew just the right people to make it happen.
Since that first show in 2022, the Kingston indie rock four-piece has grown from a college friend experiment into a real band built on friendship, loud guitars, and the kind of mild chaos that makes a live show feel alive. Nathan Graham, Joel Schell, Nick Zaporozhets, and Ryleigh Stringer first crossed paths through St. Lawrence College, where the band quickly became more than a project. They became best friends first, and a band second.
Taking inspiration from bands like The Strokes, Peach Pit, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nothing But Thieves, Sons of Rick blends catchy indie rock hooks with distorted guitars, playful energy, and the occasional instrument swap. Most days Nathan leads on vocals and rhythm guitar, but songs like “Filter” let Nick step into lead vocals and rhythm guitar, keeping the band’s live set loose and unpredictable.
Following their debut single “Filter,” their three-song EP featuring “Man on the Moon,” “Mania,” and “Order in the Court,” and their latest single “Fuzion Frenzy,” Sons of Rick are continuing to build their sound beyond Kingston, one slightly chaotic show at a time.
