In the summer of 2006, Vancouver's Adera rose from the ashes of bands By A Thread, All State Champion and Complete, bringing their crushing weight and melodic song writing to the stage. With influences paying tribute to great bands such as Quicksand, Failure, Fugazi, Refused and aspects familiar of The Who and Led Zeppelin, the group captures a pressing sense of urgency and intensity. Devoid of anything trite or pretentious, the vocal and instrument melodies merge with the stories within the songs to deliver knockout punches, cutting and unashamed in their discontent. John Franco is known for superb lyrical expression in his poetic fashion, putting in perspective the beauty and frustration of everyday life. With their combined years of experience on numerous North American tours, Adera shows their raw talent and power on stage - driving home the meaning of every word with swarming stinging guitars, steel-toed belly kick drumming, and astounding bass guitar wizardry. The musical relationship between drummer Todd McConkey and bassist Wes Cook has spanned 20 years, beginning in their childhood, culminating in - as one interview put it - "the most solid, unconscious and organic rhythm section around". The magic between the two rhythm masters is unparalleled and has to be seen to be believed. Reminiscent of guitar player Kim Thayil, guitarist Dan Nilsson's intertwining notes gives an eery atmospheric sustenance to every melody, that truly defines the strength and creativeness of his guitar playing. The original bands that provided Adera's lifeblood were well acquainted during one of Vancouver's most vibrant periods in music, when literally every weekend the city exploded with live talent. Close relationships were forged in that time when anything seemed possible, not knowing what the future would hold, and that time in music history brought to life one of the most honest and absolute bands in music today. Passionate and determined, Adera was put forth on this planet to do what it's members do best.
