The small islands of Torres Strait sit silently between the two giant lands of new Guinea and Australia. Torres Strait Islanders have always been specialised sea peoples and the sea’s sacred endowment has remained influential.

I am guided by the spiritual traditional cultural practices of my people, the Maluyligal of Zenadh Kes (Torres Strait). I am fluent in both the Kala Lagaw Ya and Kala Kawaw Ya dialects in the Maluyligaw Ya. I believe language is the core of all cultures in the world today. Song, dance and the visual arts all evolve from the centrepiece of language.
