Sometimes you just have to get together with a group of old homies and throw down on a Saturday night! Victoria Ska & Reggae Society is stoked to welcome back our dear friends BURNT. who will be coming back to Victoria from California for the first time since 2019 when they melted some faces during our Halloween Spooktacular! One of the most consistently interesting and engaging bands on the West Coast, BURNT has kept a special place in the hearts of our Ska & Reggae massive for more than 15 years – leaving their mark with both their fantastic records and their amazingly elastic, versatile live performances. You never know where you’re going to end up when BURNT is on stage as they wind their way through bright snappy reggae, deep smoky dub, slow burning hip-hop and discombobulating psychedelia, all played with an abundance of passion and talent.
Taking the stage before BURNT are a trio of our dear friends and comrades – MCs MO MOSHIRI and NOSTIC who will be supported on the decks by the mighty GROSSBUSTER. One of the west coast’s most thoughtful, passionate MCs and Sweatshop Union alumnus, Mo Moshiri has been an important staple of our local hip-hop community for over a decade. His knowledge of and deep love for hip-hop culture permeates everything he does and every time he touches the mic his passion is more than palpable – evident on his most recent single “Eye Deal,” a collaboration with and tribute to our dearly departed friend Orilla. The single is a towering triumph in honour of the legend that is Orilla, created with help from the man who will be supporting him on the decks for this show, Grossbuster.
They’ll be sharing the stage with the one of the most effervescent MCs our city has ever seen, the elastic and immensely talented Nostic. At its core, hip-hop is about community and you can be sure these three friends are going to come together to create something special for this party.
Kicking things off for this show will be our friends SKYLA J & OZ, formerly known as Greenlaw, who will be joining us for the first time since they played a gorgeous set at Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest where they played before local legend Mat the Alien and Barry Ashworth of the Dub Pistols. The powerful duo plays an uniquely organic live electronic music that combines elements of hip-hop, soul, house and reggae. Skyla J & Oz keeps the crowd on its toes as they take the dancefloor on a journey.
Come join us for the one of the coolest, most engaging and diverse nights of music Victoria has seen in
quite some time!
