Event Description
Our new “CanUS Jazz” front line : Simon Stribling on trumpet and Doug Rhodes, reeds join Al Pease on the front line. A ‘creme de la creme of traditional jazz musicians!
New Orleans Jazz & Dixieland with lots of vocals including Jazzy Three-Part Harmony & a Hot Band. And performing at Hermann’s Jazz Club 1-3 pm August 6 which is a world class show space voted the favourite in all of Canada which has a great menu & bar service.
Amazingly, this is the 32nd year of CanUS performing at Hermann's Jazz Club while at the same time touring the U.S. and Canada Traditional Jazz Festivals for 25 of those years.
Newest to the group is Simon, thanks to another lovely Canadian woman who has snagged us a jazz musician (Australian this time). The former leader of Fireworks Jazz Band that travelled world-wide, Simon Stribling has settled here in Victoria and wife, Lauri the drummer replacing CanUS founding member, Don Leppard. Our other lucky romantic catch is Joey Smith who was touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra as bassist!
Back with the band after many years of touring and recording with CanUS is Doug Rhodes who is a real specialist and collector of early traditional jazz and brings his charm, vocals and exceptional musical talent to the group.
Also featuring local heroes of classic jazz, Al Pease, clarinet/Sax, Avram McCagherty, banjo, Joey Smith bass, and Toni Blodgett, tickling the ivories who look forward to seeing you. Reservations online at hermannsjazz.com or by phone: 250-388-9166 Walk-ins welcome.
