Special celebration! World-class Cuban pianist Pablo Cardenas plays a tribute to Canadian legend Oscar Peterson, celebrating Oscar's 100th birthday this year. He will be interpreting his most famous and beloved pieces. Joining Pablo's band, Peter Dowse, bass, Cyril Lojda, drums, Leif Bradshaw, vocals, and guests' surprises.
In a career spanning more than 60 years, Canadian jazz pianist and composer Oscar Peterson released over 200 recordings, won eight Grammy Awards, and received numerous other awards and honours. He is considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time and continues to inspire and challenge new generations of jazz musicians.
Pablo Cardenas is a Cuban Jazz pianist, composer, music educator, and arranger with different influences like Afro-Cuban, Latin jazz, jazz fusion, modern jazz, classical, and more. He studied classical performance at the Superior Institute of Arts in Havana, Cuba. Since the 2000s, he has been performing in music festivals in Havana and internationally. He has been residing in Canada since 2011, where he created different music projects as The West Coast Cuban Orchestra, highly contributing to the development of the Afro-Cuban music and jazz scene in the area, performing at the most important venues and festivals around, and collaborating with many accomplished musicians like Canadian treasures Dee Daniels and Denzal Sinclair. Pablo has also been collaborating with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in recent years.
