“Sacred steel” is a lesser-known form of gospel music where soaring vocals intertwine with lap and pedal steel guitar that is electric in both senses of the word. Although this music has been galvanizing the faithful in some Pentecostal churches for over a half-century, sacred steel has only recently made it into blues and rock music, taking on the power of a great rock show. The Campbell Brothers – Chuck, Phil, and Darick – are at the forefront of this profound musical idiom. As instrumentalists, their mix of slide, wah-wah, and virtuosic finger picking imbue their guitars with an uncannily human-sounding voice. Combine that with a great rhythm section and some sublime gospel singers and this is a band that is righteously blessed. Carlton Campbell drums, Daric Bennett bass
