About

The Pine Family Singers

Direct descendants of Chief Shingwaukonce. Originally consisted of Daniel Erskine Pine (Shingwauk) and his siblings. Present-day group consists of Dan's daughters performing spiritual hymns sung in the Ojibwe language and dialect, common to the Ojibwe people of the Garden River First Nation.

"The hymns you will be hearing are sung in the Ojibwe language and dialect common to the Ojibwe people of the Garden River First Nation and surrounding area. These ageless songs of praise and thanksgiving are present at all the important times in the life of the community and its members, and have been sung and passed from generation to generation for over a hundred years. This recording is an effort to retain these sacred songs and preserve the Ojibwe language for future generations....

Recordings: "The Pine Family Singes" (1999), "Angels We Have Heard On High" (2003), both recordings are done in the Ojibwe language.
